SM Karate: SUMMER 2023 : ASHTON RANCH & KINGSWOOD WEEK 7

Hello Parents and Students!

Welcome to the Summer Semester with Sensei Sean Milligan! Parents please be sure that all classes are paid for. Students with 3 or more NP (Not Paid) will not be allowed to participate in class. Please check with a Class Secretary about any absences students will need to make up. There is an Absenteeism Report, please check it. Parents/Guardians will need to sign the YELLOW PARENT HELPER SHEET prior to entering the Gym/Cafeteria, UNLESS it is TESTING DAY. Children that are not part of the karate program will not be allowed to sit in the Gym/Cafeteria.

IMPORTANT WEEKLY NOTICE!

Please read this weekly for any last minute schedule changes, added classes, and other upcoming important events.

TESTING:

* KINGSWOOD: THIS SATURDAY, JULY 15, 2023

* ASHTON RANCH: NEXT THURSDAY, JULY 20, 2023

* TESTING FEE: $12.00 FEE (PLUS THE REGULAR CLASS FEE, IF PAID IN FULL ONLY PAY THE TESTING FEE) - NO SPECTATORS

* There will be an email with the curriculum for students who would like to practice at home.

1. Testing will be held at your regular class times – we try to stay within each classes time frame, however with large

classes we may run a few minutes over, we appreciate your patience if this does occur.

2. Perfect attendance is required before testing. Students will be allowed to test if they have 1 or 2 absences, if the

absences are paid and the “make-up” classes are attended before the semester ends. Students with 3 or more

absences will not be allowed to test this session but should still plan on attending class. Speak to your instructor or

class assistant for more information on make-ups. Make-ups cannot be done on testing night due to time constraints.

3.All students are required to attend class on testing day; however, they are NOT required to test. Students who do not

want to take the test will participate in a PRACTICE TEST.

4. The fee for testing is $12.00 plus the regular class fee. If you have prepaid the entire semester you will be charged

$12.00 for testing. On testing night, students will individually check in with the class assistant or instructor.

5. Belts are NOT sold; they are earned by students! Belts are free to students when they pass the test.

6. SPECTATORS are NOT ALLOWED to watch DURING TESTING. The students are nervous enough without an audience.

Furthermore, we need a quiet atmosphere for the testing. We appreciate your understanding and support!

7. Testing day/night may run a little longer than a normal class, we appreciate your patience!

8. Students are always encouraged to practice outside of class, but if they have attended class regularly, they should be

adequately prepared for the testing!

9. Do not call the office or the instructor to see if a student passed. Certificates and awards will be presented on Awards

Night, which will be held after Winter Break. Information on the ceremony will be provided the day of testing.

Remember that ALL students having perfect attendance will receive a certificate.

10. Students are increasing in rank exactly as they should be if they advance one rank at a time. Some students will skip

ranks if the instructor thinks that they are ready.

RED BELTS AND ABOVE : There will be Red Belt ClInic this week, July 15 from 3:00 - 4:00 pm

BELT RANK UP FOR STUDENTS : You will notice that students received a black piece of tape that went around their belt. The reason for this is your student has made it a 3rd of the way through the semester and has ranked up. If your student was absent the day that these ranks were given they will receive it when they return, however, in order to receive a new belt at the end of the semester your student will need to make up the class that was missed. See a Class Secretary to receive your student's stripe and details on make up classes. If your student does not yet have a belt, please see a Class Secretary so one can be ordered. Once received, the stripe will be added.

SPARRING

Below, you'll see some sparring equipment in our lists. This is an advanced option for our students and all equipment is designed to keep everyone safe. Students learning self-defense techniques are supported and monitored throughout the lessons.

* Parents please fill out the attached SPARRING FORM and bring it to class prior to your student participating in Sparring. It may be given to a CLASS SECRETARY. We do have the forms on location as well.

Sparring is open to students ranked GREEN AND ABOVE. It is mandatory for ranks purple and above. For students to participate in sparring, they must have the following:

• Hand Pads

• Foot Pads

• Mouth Piece

Cup & Support (males)

Purple Rank & Above: Headgear and Body Armor

Orange Rank & Above: Full-face Headgear and Body Armor
