Hello Parents and Students!

Welcome to the Fall 2024 Semester with Sensei Sean, Sensei Ashton, and Sensei Dave! Please read all the information below, especially the "Important Weekly Notice” section, as it will pertain to any schedule changes or notices. Parents who would like to be in the class to assist must sign the yellow "Parent Helper" sign-in sheet at the front desk. ABSENCES & TESTING INFORMATION

**I have sent emails to those who have less than 5 absences.

To qualify for rank promotion, students must complete required make-up classes before testing day. Absences can be made up by doing the following:

- **Stay for an Extra Class:** Students can attend the class scheduled before or after their regular session.

- **You may go to another location taught by either Sensei Sean or Sensei Ashton and do a make-up class.

- **Go to another location not taught by Sensei Sean or Sensei Ashton, but have a "Make-Up Verification Form" filled out and brought back to original class.

- **If you know the student will be absent for a week or two for vacation or an event, absences can be made up ahead of time.

- **Check-In Reminder:** Parents, please select the "Make-Up Option" when checking in your student for the extra class.

Please let me or one of the secretaries know what you would like to do so we can all be on the same page and get any paperwork ready if needed.

If you have any conflicts with the scheduled testing day, please coordinate directly with me as soon as possible.

We try to stay within each classes time frame; however, with large classes, we may run a few minutes over, we appreciate your patience if this does occur.

**We encourage all students to test on the testing day; however, they are NOT required to test.

**Students who do not want to test will still participate in a practice test and class.

**Perfect attendance is required before the awards day. In rare cases, where a student becomes ill during the last two weeks of the semester and cannot complete one or two make-up classes, parents will be allowed to prepay for these make-up classes and make up their classes at the beginning of the following semester.

**Students with three or more absences must discuss arrangements with their instructor or class secretary. Make-ups cannot be done on awards day due to time constraints.

**Students who miss our scheduled testing day can be tested if a regularly scheduled class occurs before our scheduled awards day. If a student is unable to test, these students can test early the next semester once make-up classes are completed.

The fee for testing is $12.00 plus the regular class fee. If you have prepaid for the entire semester, you will be charged $12.00 for testing. Please select the testing option when checking in using the parent portal. On the testing night, students will individually check in with the class secretary or instructor to ensure proper testing forms are completed.

Spectators are not allowed to watch during testing. The students are nervous enough without an audience. Furthermore, we need a quiet atmosphere for the testing. We

appreciate your understanding and support!

Certificates and awards will be presented on awards day, usually one to two weeks after testing. Information on the ceremony will be provided on the day of testing. Remember that ALL students will receive an award and certificate on award day. Students who tested will receive their next belt rank and a promotion certificate. Students who did not test will receive a participation medal and participation certificate. Our instructors possess all testing results until the end of the semester.

ABSENCES

Students must have perfect attendance in order to test. All absences must be made up by our testing dates below in order for a student to test for their next belt rank. Absences can be made up when a student returns to class, or prior to the date a student will be absent (if you know you will be out of town). Make-up classes can be done at the student's regular location either before their regular class or after, or at Canyon Ridge. Make-up classes can also be done at another location not taught by either Sensei Sean or Sensei Ashton, but a "Makeup Verification" form will need to be filled out in order to do so. Please let me or one of the secretaries know what you would like to do so we can all be on the same page and get any paperwork ready if needed.

BEFORE COMING TO CLASS

* Parents please be sure to check in online prior to coming to class every week

** You will not need to do this for the first class, as students are automatically checked in when you register

** Online Check-In can be done through the ActivStars App or on the ActivStars Athletics Website (the link is in my signature below)

* Parents please check in with the class secretaries upon arrival every week. If they are not checked in in person, then they will be marked absent.

** This is to ensure proper attendance for each student

* Please be sure to read the Parent Helper Guidelines below if you would like to participate as a Parent Helper

CLASS ETIQUETTE

* Students please bow before entering the dojo (gym/cafeteria)

* Students please take off shoes or wear karate shoes

** Shoes can be placed in a designated area provided by the instructor

** KARATE SHOES

* Students please bow before leaving the dojo (gym/cafeteria)

* Students please use "Yes, Sir" or "Yes, Ma'am" during class

STUDENT PICK UP

Parents MUST accompany children ages 4-17 during pick up. Children will not be released unless a parent/guardian is with the student. However, A Student Walker Form may be filled out if you feel your child/children are safe to check in and leave by themselves. The form will be available at the check-in desk. Afterward, your child/children will be allowed to leave without a parent/guardian.
